Grassroots
This is a very basic program for anyone who wishes to teach the beginner – those starting to learn cricket. It’s aimed at people interested in coaching kids Kanga Ball but it’s also suitable for those wishing to coach adults playing the game for the first time and who wish to graduate to the more traditional form of cricket. These coaches are used at schools, community centres and at local events to give clinics and demonstrate various aspects of the game.
Development
It goes beyond Kanga Ball and is intended for those who have progressed beyond the grass roots level – those interested in coaching club cricketers. It stresses skills, fitness, strategies, laws of the game, etiquette, team spirit, etc. but the fun aspects of the game are not forgotten. This coach generally prepares candidates, teams for some form of competition.
Opportunities
Coaches do make a difference and our volunteer coaches contribute greatly to the success of the programs of run by the Association – grass roots programs, junior and school programs, clubs and community programs, and regional development programs. Junior and senior provincial teams do give opportunities to coaches who can gain experience that will potentially enable them to coach national touring teams. The Manitoba Cricket Association also encourages each club to develop a club coach to improve the game here.
Coaches are all required to attend clinics offered by Sport Manitoba. This starts with Respect in Sports on line training.
